What does 2150 mean anyway?

 The vision behind the putting the year 2150 in our title is two-fold: Spiritual and Scientific

1.  This first is Spiritual and was inspired by The Seventh Generation Principle, based on an ancient Haudenosaunee (Iroquois)* philosophy that the decisions we make today should result in and sustainable world seven generations into the future.

​

2. The second is Scientific and inspired by Longitudinal Research. Meaning the project can also use itself to be a study of the progression of health overtime in individuals, families, and communities to track the positive progress of health through one's lifetime and the lifetimes of their posterity. Therefore the project aims to sustain itself (throughout all of the hardships, criticisms of the project, and changes in the society) as something to observe the progress of. The belief is that if you study something for a very short interval of time with the expectation of profound results or outcomes, then you will be left dejected and can often abandon the project shortly after. True change seems to come in ways that transcend human consciousness and control. Allowing for something to grow and mature into its developed form requires patience - sabr, and commitment. This is the belief that is also being pursued through the 2150 Project.

Therefore the project is moving in two directions long-term, simultaneously. From the year 2150 and back to present day, and from present day observing for 7 generations.

Therefore, the vision of this project, namely The Oasis Project 2150, has a goal of being actualized in the year 2150.

​

The idea for the Oasis started around the year 2017. 1 generation is estimated to span 15-30 years. 20 (years) times 7 (generations) would equal 140. That would make the year 2157. But since it's only an approximation anyway, the year was rounded back by 7 years to equal 2150.

​

The Oasis was made intentionally keeping in mind that future generations would have to necessarily carry it on. No individual or even generation - or even the span of a lifetime will live to see the final result, and in embracing abhinivesha (fear of the future) and the cycle of giving birth before dying and the child giving birth and then dying as well is the underlying cycle that has kept humans alive since the beginning. The truth of this reality is honored in this.

Finally, as an African American, it is often said that we don't pass on generational wealth to our kids, but much more often debt. This bleak reality inspired me to leave this project for my unborn children. Yes, it could be something centered around money, but countless times all over the world for all of history we have seen major shortcomings with that being the only goal. It could be a particular skill, like playing the piano, or trade like working on cars, but these aren't always desired by the children to follow after the father. The project is one that affects the lives of everyone, and for better or for worse will continue to be a central factor until the end of time. So to my unborn son, and even daughter. This is for you.
