3 Phase Approach

Conscious Phase

Learn that something is bad for you to the point where you believe it, or learn something is good for you to the point where you believe it.

Knowledge Phase

Often starts with knowledge of self.  Learn more why something is good for you, or learn more why something is bad for you. Eventually develop your on viewpoint on said topic based on synthetizing information.
 

Example:
If your body is overused in mechanical, repetitive ways it breaks it down because it wasn't made to be used in that way. Furthermore, pain killers don't fix the problem at all, they only temporarily block the pain. Pain killers are bad for you because it confuses the bodies healing process.

We can't encourage you to quit your job, but we can encourage physical therapy over pain killers because physical therapy will help to teach healthy postures and ways to keep your blood flowing and body healing itself for the long term.

Lifestyle Phase

this does expect action. 

But does not expect it overnight, as many of those actions don't last. Instead, it would be desired the guy integrates it naturally into his own life as he sees fit. This may be because he gets fed up with other methods such as heavy alcohol or excessive pills, or he just received enough information to be convinced 

It cannot be overstated that this can be passed down generationally as well.

 

Example: So maybe the grandfather only is Conscious of the fact that alcohol truly is bad for you and Knows that it breaks down the body and leads to addiction. But can't find a way to integrate it into his Lifestyle within in life. Fortunately, the daughter would inherit the grandfathers wrestling with whether to drink or not Knowing some reasons why it’s bad, and also maybe see some of the negative side effects of him doing it. Therefore, the daughter decides her Lifestyle will only be to drink socially and find other ways to destress throughout the week. and the grandson may make the Lifestyle decision to not drink at all.
